Mollie Adams Diary of her Journey in the Canadian Rockies July 26, 1908

1st. Maligne Camp.
Sunday, July 26.
3 hrs. over the pass.  Camped at junction of the two creeks.  The hillsides among the burnt timber covered with castillaea, etc., more gorgeous than anything I ever saw.  The castillaea we saw yesterday on the Maligne, were more beautiful in variety of color (Mr. B. got 28 different ones), but there are greater masses of it here.  After lunch I started out with M. and took a short amble around, then she and U. went on up to the head of the valley (the straighter branch, east of Maligne Pass valley).  They found a pass, which might be possible to get horses over, and to their great surprise they looked right down on the upper end of Maligne Lake, and across it to the Thumb.  We all thought we were farther southeast than that, or else that the lake was not so long.
