Alpine Club of Canada Shelfies

As part of our continuing partnership with the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) we have expanded our Shelfie Series that was begun on our Instagram page (See here) highlighting books and other published material that can be found in the Alpine Club of Canada’s Library Collection. Over the next year, the Whyte Museum and the ACC will be taking turns highlighting stories from the ACC Library Collection which is housed here in the Library and Archives of the Whyte Museum. Alternating months, each will choose a book or a series of books and tell the story here on our blog and on the ACC Blog.

The ACC’s collection is a truly amazing combination of the old and the new. Mountaineering history buffs can find classics such as The Canadian Rockies: New and Old Trails by A.P. Coleman, while climbers can discover guidebooks from all over the world, including The Munros: A Walkhighlands Guide by Paul and Helen Webster. Those looking for inspiration can read about the amazing lives and adventures of Sir Edmund Hillary and local Canmorite Barry Blanchard. The environmentally conscious reader can peruse books on wildlife conservation, mountain flora, and the changing state of glaciers. There are even fiction books with short stories and poetry featuring the works of writers who have been inspired by mountain landscapes.

You will be able to find all the Shelfies on both blogs (see pop-out menu in top right corner on our blog under Blog Topics) and we encourage everyone to make a trip to the Library and Archives at the Whyte Museum in Banff to see the collection for themselves!
